Shiatsu is available at Buoyancy on Thursday and Friday afternoons between 1-5pm, by appointment.
What is shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a form of body-work. It originated in Japan and works with the principles of Eastern traditional healing and medicine. Shiatsu uses supportive pressure to relax and stimulate the body’s systems of self-adjustment and self-healing.
How is it performed?
Shiatsu takes place fully clothed. The receiver lies or sits and receives pressure to the body. Through the pressure the receiver can feel the condition of their body, and learn to put themselves in a relaxed and attentive state. In this state the bodies self-healing and regulatory systems can operate most effectively.
What is it for?
Some people report reduced levels of anxiety, or getting in touch with a sense of physical or emotional well-being. The next step may be to find ways to increase this sense of well -being in day to day life.
The shiatsu facilitator at Buoyancy is male. As shiatsu involves physical contact, it is important that the receiver feels comfortable and in control of the process at all times. This includes deciding to stop the shiatsu session at any time they choose. It is also important that the receiver is in a condition where they can take full responsibility for their own well-being. For this reason, sessions can only take place when not affected by drugs, alcohol, or any other condition that may impair judgement or sensitivity.
The shiatsu facilitator is a qualified drug and alcohol counsellor, and will talk with you about your aims in regard to drug and alcohol use.
